NOTE: Calculating Full Time Equivalent

A full time employee works up to 40 hours per week for 50 weeks. If you have seasonal or part-time staff, calculate the total number of hours per week the staff work and base it on a 40 hour week to identify how many FTE employees you have.

Example 1: You and one employee work full time year-round. Two people averaging 34 to 40 hour weeks each for 50 weeks = 2 employees.

Example 2: You and five employees work. You and two employees are year-round workers and in the summer you have two employees working from June 1 through to September 5. This scenario would be 3.5 FTE employees.

You + 2 year-round, averaging 34-40 hours per week = 3 FTE employees AND 2 employees working 34-40 hours per week from June 1 to September 5 (i.e. 3 months) = 1 employee working full-time for 6 months OR 0.5 full time employee for a full year.
